Fake News Feeds

Ashleigh Trout

An online article from the University of Colorado shed light on which social media platform is most responsible for the dispersion of fake news. I’m sure it’s no surprise that Facebook won that race, with Twitter not too far behind. Apparently, those who subscribe to ideological extremes are more likely to spread fake news, though the majority refrain from such activity. According to the study, “71% of Facebook users” (Marshall 1) have been recorded as having no interaction with fake news posts. The reason fake news can even make it so far is likely due to the “biased, misleading, and hyper-partisan” (Marshall 1) nature of the information.
