In our society, no matter how much we preach that “Truth prevails”, in reality, it is falsehood that wins the battle. According to a study on the Atlantic, “Fake news and false rumors reach more people, penetrate deeper into the social network, and spread much faster than accurate stories.” People nowadays, especially the Gen Z like to get their news from social media like Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, etc. From reading different posts so far I have come to the conclusion that fake news gain more attention and it evokes more emotion than the real story which gives the false news momentum. It is misleading and it is harming our youth. These rumors and fake news spread due to humans and everyone should be careful about what they post. Not everything on social media is true and it is very important to remember that. To prevent false news from spreading we need to “redesign our information ecosystem”. False news not only affects our day to day life, but it also affects our perspective on news, important topics, democracy, business, entertainment, and the government. It puts our democracy in question. Social media can use rhetorical devices and charged language to influence a matter or spread rumors. This matter has become a serious issue and we all should try to vet the news we receive from social media and lastly try to form our own opinions.
