As I was scrolling through my Instagram feed, I stumbled across a post containing a picture of a news headline claiming a parasitic worm is causing women to get pregnant. Naturally, I decided to figure out what was actually going on. Such an article headline can be pretty unsettling to anyone who isn’t aware enough, but upon a simple google search, it’s quickly understood that the headline was in fact, fake news. According to BBC News, the worm “increases the fertility of women,” allowing the reader to feel more informed and calm about the situation. The article contains background information as to the research conducted, and is much more reliable than the initial headline.
