Fishing for Fake News (pt. 1)

Nathan Cook

As news becomes increasingly available and rapidly spreads, it is more prone to being misinterpreted and/or inaccurate. According to a Harvard article on fake news, some reasons fake news has become so prevalent is because "social media feeds make it easier for us to share content [rather] than evaluate or even read it" and the fact that "people are more likely to accept information that confirms their beliefs and dismiss information that does not." Due to fake news being commonly circulated in today's society, it is important to learn ways to evaluate the legitimacy of news. The article goes on to provide effective ways on how to combat fake news that I write about in part two.
