Fishing for Fake News (pt. 2)

Nathan Cook

Regarding fake news, there are various strategies to recognize and avoid it. In a Harvard article that describes fake news and analyzes the best ways to combat it, four important tips are recommended. The first is verifying the source by checking the "site meet[s] academic citation standards" and the "domain appears credible." Secondly is to "pay attention to quality and timeliness" to make certain it is reputable and current. The third tip is to "check sources and citations" as the quotations should be often and credible along with other sources with similar information. The final tip is to "ask the pros" on credible fact checking websites. By using these tips, fake news can be caught and gutted from the seas of misinformation.
