Food Consumption and Carbon Dioxide Emissions

jharrington5

I follow a plant-based diet, also known as a Vegan diet. There are moral differences between the two, which I will not be going into; however, the food they may consume is precisely the same. In this article by the BBC, I found that producing the food I eat uses about 155 Kilograms of carbon dioxide annually. The paper implements a custom data calculator to show each reader how they may affect the environment. The BBC also uses statical data to help influence the readers to make more sustainable food consuming practices. One thing I liked in the article is how it mentioned “global consumption of fruits, vegetables, nuts, and legumes will have to double,” and “At the same time the amount of red meat and sugar will have to halve.” to reduce the “12,000 megatonnes of carbon dioxide” released annually.
