Ariane Chemin, a french journalist, was recently questioned by french intelligence about a story she released regarding a scandal with french president Emmanuel Macron and, Alexandre Benalla, a french presidential security aide. She claimed "They asked me many questions on the manner in which I checked my information, which was an indirect way of asking me about my sources" (Chemin). The "Benalla Affair" or the "Benalla Scandal" was sparked by a video recording of Benalla beating a French protester wearing a policemen's helmet during a May day protest in France last year. Additionally, last year, French secret service summoned seven journalists on their stories on French arms sold to soldiers in Yemen and Saudi Arabia. These stories have catalyzed protests in french streets and revelations of corruption in the french government.
