Something that (from my understanding) is widely known is that Generation Z doesn’tdonews. News is not something Generation Z actively seeks or engages with, and that can be a real concern in the world of journalism. If the future generations don’t start interacting with the news how will journalism ever remain afloat? Nico Gendron says that “if news organizations can’t commit to hiring young people to tell their own stories, they at the very least should productize content in a way that appeals to Gen Z.” Some ideas she shares on how to attract younger audiences include establishing social media accounts that appeal to them, trying other ways to get the news out (for example, via text or e-mail), and finding new ways to let the audience engage like adding reactions or likes to articles to make it feel more familiar to Generation Z. If you can appeal to younger crowds, journalism has a much better chance of surviving.
