Gerrymandering the Media

Gerrymandering is the process in which redistricting is done so as to maintain political power rests in the hands of one political party or the other. In the article, News coverage gets geo-fragmented by Madelyn Sanfilippo and Yafit Lev-Aretz, they outline the effects of the 2020 election on the media and how it would lead to gerrymandered media production. By personalizing what media is shown to you by locational data, the result is homogenous populations in which everyone believes the same thing because the news is the same. For example "major news apps and aggregators using location data to personalize push notifications" which in turn leads to people in the same area receiving the same exact news.
