Global Warming's Discarded Swan Song

Global Warming has been an issue plaguing not only the world since the industrial revolution, but the field of politics since its introduction. In the field of journalism specifically, climate change has been a divisive topic that many don't want to consider. A number of journalists, looking to the future, asked the question of whether they would be able to share this story without worrying about excessive public backlash. According to Fiona Spruill, climate change was meant to have its time in the limelight of 2020 media. Stated by Fiona Spruill, "It will take its place where it deserves to be - as a touching-every-aspect-of-life story." (Spruill)

Then, COVID-19 struck. Suddenly, the economic situation of America became much less able to shoulder development against climate change, and the world's worries shifted to the more immediate threat.

The issue lies with America's willingness to consider climate change after this epidemic is over. Immediately afterward, many Americans will be recuperating their savings over the losses they suffered being unemployed during quarantine. When both America and its people are in the midst of economic issues, who is going to be looking at the sky?
