Going North

Updated: Feb 25, 2021

A protest for re-electing President Alexander Lukashenko for the sixth term turned sour when two journalists, Katsiaryna Bakhvalava and her colleague Daria Chultsova were both arrested in Belarus for live streaming it. Journalists around the world always have the struggle of finding information in the right and "legal" way, this one is an example of that. These young journalists were arrested in the comfort of their own homes and convicted for two years in the Belarus prison. This article shows a great amount of ethos and pathos, it brings quotes from both journalists and their thoughts on how the government went about its actions. AP News brought a story to light on how journalists from other countries might experience such circumstances. "The International Federation of Journalists denounced the ruling as 'shameful and totally unfounded.'”
