Has Journalism Gone Too Far?

Morgan Cook

Journalists need to capture the attention of the reader to formulate a hard-hitting story. But have they gone too far? Most articles nowadays are used in a way that is sensational and invokes a sense of excitement. NeimanLab shared an article by Masuma Ahuja highlighting just this, and how she believes that journalism needs to take a step back to be “slower, quieter, more measured and thoughtful” so as not to exhaust the readers. In her eyes, media has taken a step away from providing actual details of importance to the reader and have started to provide information that is seen as extraordinary. Journalists are here to tell a story, yes, but it has started to encroach into territory where information is skewed, an Ahuja predicts a decrease in the fantastical style of reporting.
