By now, we are all accustomed to seeing some pretty crazy headlines. President Trump's impeachment was a fairly recent event, yet it feels like a lifetime ago. Going back and reading the breaking news headlines from the impeachment might seem like "old news", but at the time, it was the hottest topic off the press.
On Wednesday, December 18th, 2019, Donald Trump became the third president in our nation's history to be impeached. Reporters were in a frenzy when trying to come up with the most "click worthy" headline. The titles were mostly in big, bold writing, and featured a short, but jam-packed subtitle. An article published by the Los Angeles Times was titled "HOUSE IMPEACHES TRUMP: He becomes the third president to face removal as lawmakers approve abuse of power, obstruction articles." Now, I know what you're thinking, longest title ever, right? The article also shows a picture of U.S. Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, smiling and holding a gavel. This photo is right next to an oversaturated photo of President Trump passionately speaking into a microphone. Do you think that these situations are unfairly portrayed? Or is the LA Times simply exercising their First Amendment right to freedom of the press?
