In my last post, I discussed how the future of journalism is not very bright with so much misinformation being produced by the media. However, according to the founder of Craigslist, Craig Newmark, journalism is making "progress." Newmark stated that "more major news organizations and networks are debunking the lies spread by those in power." This is a step in the right direction. If journalists can focus their attention on calling out misinformation and debunking the lies spread by those in power, then there is still hope for journalism. If media outlets are held accountable for using rhetoric to misinform the public, maybe one day we will be able to turn on the news and not have to worry about it being fake. Newmark believes that journalism is getting closer to producing consistently reliable news but that "we’re still away from fully achieving that goal."
