The April 30, 2020 edition of The San Diego Union-Tribune newspaper features negative vibes as the main headline reads "U.S. Economy Shrinks, But Worst Is To Come". The headline is followed by negative updated statistics on the country's economy and death toll caused by COVID-19. The headline is followed by the image of what seems to a dismal town featuring a single person with a mask, portraying what seems like every city in the U.S. right now. However, the glooming visuals and text is followed by hopeful sub-articles informing the public on the efforts to put an end to the pandemic. For example, a couple articles in the newspaper feature "Signs of Hope As County Discusses..." and "New Drug Shows Promise Against COVID-19" So while, the main headline of The San Diego Union-Tribune appears to show the decline of the U.S. presently, the front page also tries to instill hope into readers.
The April 30, 2020 edition of The Tuscaloosa News, in comparison, approaches their front page differently as the first headline one finds is about a student winning a contest by NASA. It is followed by an article focused in the center describing the Mercedes plant opening back up, but it is interesting to note that the rest of the articles on the front page do not directly address the pandemic in the titles of the articles like the previous newspaper. This front page to me seems to be more relaxed than the previous because the images shown also seem to encourage the public by showing a person going back to work rather than a lonely man walking about a deserted town.
