How Fake News Goes Viral

rpayberah1

It's not hard for eye catching news to go viral, especially with the prevalence of social media nowadays. In a case study from The New York Times, one specific case of fake news is chronically analyzed. In this case, someone made a tweet without fact checking, assuming that it was harmless due to not having a large following. However the tweet garnered a lot of attention due to it being about a very trending yet polarizing topic, and many people just instantly believed it. This specific case is just an example of how "in an ever-connected world where speed often takes precedence over truth, an observation by a private citizen can quickly become a talking point, even as it is being proved false."
