How to Stop the Spread of Fake News in Today's World

In today's world, social media is one of the top places that people get their information from. One of the main things that goes around social media super fast is news and that is when true information is posted, and also a lot of times false information. BBC news wrote an article about how there are solutions that can help reduce the spread of fake news by people. Usually the main cause of fake news going around is the people on social media continuing to share stories that are posted that makes it go around even more and which makes it come up to the top of everyone's feed on social media, this includes social media platforms spreading false information, for example, fake news that were being brought up during the election that caused many voters to view things differently which was a big thing "Facebook, which came under heavy criticism for allowing fake news to be circulated during the election period, have taken steps to offer combat issue" (BBC). Social media sites like Facebook have adjusted some things to help prevent the spread of false information to others. This includes adding flag buttons to flag false stories that are being posted and informing Facebook users to report posts that are being spread due to excitement and interesting topics. This is an eye opener to let the users of social media to know that if you see something that you know is fake or you even feel like it could be false, to either report and flag the post, or continue to scroll and keep moving on to prevent the spread of fake news so others can avoid reaching that post.
