How We View News

“On Dec. 18, the Democratic-led House of Representatives voted almost entirely along party lines to impeach President Donald Trump on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The next step in the process is likely a trial in the Republican-led Senate” (House Impeaches Trump, 2019; Archived Pages, Newseum Ed). This quote comes from Newseum Ed’s article entitled: House Impeaches Trump, 2019; Archived Pages. This story was a shocking, big news story as the President was impeached, as is mentioned above. Thus, public rhetoric was used greatly to entice more readers into reading their paper. The public rhetoric on display in the impeachment newspapers are that they contain big, bold letters and eye-catching photos with text on the sides and below. This is used as a hook to get you to pick up the paper and then the text is there to provide context of the breaking story. Overall, the Public rhetoric used in this case is very effective for news companies.

Above is a newspaper article that uses the public rhetoric mentioned.

Below is a website in which you can view many different newspaper covers in order to see a pattern of public rhetoric.
