In 2020, there was so much Fake News shared online through social media and news sites around COVID-19. At the beginning of 2020, I heard so many rumors about the virus. There were different rumors on how and who created the virus, how it spread, and who could or could not catch it. After doing some fact-checking, I discovered a lot of inaccurate information in all the rumors I came across. The previous year required a lot of fact-checking on news that was shared online to ensure we understood the virus and how it worked. When fact-checking, it is important to understand the different types of Fake News that are shared daily. The Business Insider defines two different types of Fake News that are out there. According to Business Insider, "The term misinformation refers to information that is false or inaccurate, and is often spread widely with others, regardless of an intent to deceive. " They also stated, "Disinformation is a type of misinformation that is created to be deliberately deceptive." Knowing how to identify the different types of Fake News types will help you when fact-checking your news!
