With the amount of time we have been spending online due to the coronavirus pandemic, more and more people are posting on social media. Because of this boom in social media, there is a plethora of false news about the virus such as dubious cures and preventatives. "The social media companies have been pilloried in recent years for practicing “surveillance capitalism” and being a societal menace. Surprisingly, a number of social media companies are taking action against the spread of false information. Now, "Social media companies can block, demote or elevate posts" (The Conversation).
