It is natural for us to fear the things we cannot understand. This fear is often projected by individuals in negative ways. An article from Psychology Today depicts the fact we need to know very little about a person to discriminate against him. This discrimination is rooted in fear. We experience this on a daily basis, and I found this incredibly prevalent when I began competing in powerlifting.
I began working out at a gym meant for all styles of training, and I met many wonderfully strong people, especially women. Though I was initially frightened, I found the more I explored my confusion and embraced my curiosity, I became interested in becoming stronger myself. It is far easier to become consumed by negativity when faced with confusion, but embracing what we do not know is what allows us to learn.
