Intentional and Malicious Disinformation

jlemon1

The act of deliberately and intentionally spreading lies to the general public is something abhorrent. I believe that it's just become so commonplace for us that we see it as everyday, which it is. However, just because we've become used to something, does not mean it can't be horrible. Author and Scientist Daniel Levitin said, "The phrase 'fake news' sounds too playful, too much like a schoolchild faking illness to get out of a test." Which is absolutely true, I am guilty of it too, many times even in my own blog posts. But the truth of the matter is that misinformation is an incredibly deadly thing. Capable of misleading thousands - if not millions of people. That kind of propaganda is dangerous and it is not something that we should take lightly. I fear, however, that we are growing accustomed to it.
