Is 21st Century Media a Hindrance on Our Mental Health?

Due to being stuck inside, blamed by the cause of the pandemic, people have spent more time on their electronic devices more then ever before. With news and journalism spread easily and reached more people because of the extra screen time, people have developed more “exhaustion, stress, anxiety, and burnout” (Virdee 2020). The magnitude of mental health issues presented by the way journalist and news sources deliver their information leads to a quest for change. News and reporting require an act of change to help their readers have a positive outlook on things in their life, creating a happier headspace within the realm of mental health. With the use of “clear intentions, a thoughtful narrative, clear boundaries, and choosing with what sources you interact with,” the media could be a place of hope instead of bringing a “doomsday” mentality (Virdee 2020).
