Because of all the fake news, misinformation, and disinformation constantly circulating the world wide web and social media platforms nowadays, it is hard for news journalists to gain credibility in their work. According to Julia B. Chan and Kim Bui, from niemanlab.org, journalists are constantly "told [they] weren't ready, [they] didn't have enough experience, [they] didn't have the right experience, [they] weren't a good culture fit." Journalists are constantly getting rejected by the media for "fake news," when most of the time misinformation sprouts from other sources like memes and misleading pictures. These accusations only make it harder for journalists to recover and show off their intelligence. Society's trust in the media has also made it hard for reporters and journalists to be taken seriously when discussing controversial topics in the news.
