Journalism During Lockdown

Writer's picture: Josh BittlestoneJosh Bittlestone

While the world's population was placed on stay-at-home orders and lockdowns, those whose job to seek out information, journalists, were compelled to go out. The sheer lack of information in the beginning months of the Coronavirus pandemic led to many irrational fears and unanswered questions. Journalists as a whole sought to reduce this. According to an article from the UN written by UNRIC Brussels, " journalists also [had to] contend with battling what the World Health Organization describes as an ‘infodemic’. Misinformation, disinformation, and rumors can spread quickly and widely during a health emergency" (UN). While risking their lives to go out during a pandemic, journalists were battling rumors and false information. It's the journalists that have done so that has kept the world informed and safe during the pandemic.
