Martin Luther King Jr. once said "Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed." and this very quote can be used to describe the efforts that are needed to change how journalism is made and perceived by the masses today.
Now more than ever, change in journalism is crucial so that the truth of how African Americans are treated can be brought to light. As Cristopher Mergerson wrote in his blog titled Black Americans will demand more from Journalism , he writes that information in journalism should be empowering for African Americans to want to participant in government affairs. As more and more people speak on the matter, finally the issues are going in right hands. Mergerson saying "The New York Times also issued a diversity and inclusion report for the third straight year, while the Los Angeles Times acknowledged its history of racial exclusion and bias."
The problem of racial inequality will keep on fighting on, unless action is being taken to lessen it. Only then will the chip on African American shoulders get smaller.
