Judge a Newspaper By It's Layout

While appearance may not be the only thing that’s important, it no doubt plays a large role in how the news gets presented. TimesDaily, published in Florence, Alaska, presents a very different approach to their appearance than The Huntsville Times, published in Huntsville, Alaska. TimesDaily uses a colorful approach to their print that entices their audience, but results in a distracting experience when reading the content. This contrasts with The Huntsville Times, which has a classic black and white layout, allowing the eye to naturally be guided by the stories. There are also no intruding ads to distract the audience in the Huntsville Times unlike TimesDaily, providing a disrupting “ATTENTION Subscribers” advertisement at the bottom of the page. Each issue provides a different experience to their audiences as they both exhibit such drastic differences.
