Just Tell Me Who Won

Luke Mucha

Brian Moritz has written an article discussing the current climate of sports journalism and how it will likely be approached this coming year. In his article titled "The end of “stick to sports” Moritz explains that the current political climate is as tense as ever and many people will tell sports journalists to just stick to sports and keep any politics out of it. "With a laundry list of national and global issues on our doorstep — impeachment proceedings, an election that promises to be even more contentious than 2016, the climate crisis, racial tensions and antisemitism and white supremacy, to name just a few — there will be louder calls for non-political sports coverage"(Moritz). Moritz then goes on to explain that this is wrong. Journalist should not change their story to avoid controversy. Politics and sports are intertwined. He states that journalist should "talk up" to their audience not "talk down"
