Listening on Demand

Rebecca Bievenue

I recently took a 9-hour road trip with my two sons. Both of my kiddos had their headphones on, listening to apparently, hilarious, entertainment while I fruitlessly searched for something good on the radio in rural Oklahoma. I could have pulled the car over and searched for an interesting podcast or audio news but that would have added even more time to the drive. Steve Henn, of Google, describes in "The Dawning Audio Web" how Google is working on audio on demand for news, customized news and podcasts. Henn stated, “We’re at the beginning of an effort to make the audio web as relevant and as useful as the text web has become.” This is a really great step for people like me who drive a lot. And it's a nice option for when you want to just close your eyes and listen with no reading involved. Great job Google!
