The journalism industry's decline has caused many companies to struggle to survive. At the same time, the novel digital media have struck the traditional journalism companies such as newspapers. Under this circumstance, local newspapers are doubly impacted by industry shifts. To make things worse, many local newspapers have run into capital shortage. Therefore, some local newspapers have to shut down. In 2019, local news Katy Times announced it was to cease print operation due to financial difficulties.
Local news plays a very important role in the local community. It normally covers a lot of local events and information that means so much to the residents. So when Katy mayor Bill Hastings heard that the Katy Times would close, he stated that, "It’s a big loss to the city and to the community," and “For many years, it was the only way for Katy and Brookshire residents to know what was going on.”
We all know nothing will last long, but when we witness something used to be very familiar for us finally disappears, we feel dismayed at its passing.
