Media Jobs

"Nearly 8,000 media jobs were lost this year," states the article, Journalists Get Left Behind in the Industry's Decline, from NeimanLab's Predictions for Journalism 2020. There has been thousands of layoffs and closures from journalism companies, even big companies such as BuzzFeed and Vice. Some journalists have had to work part-time or in temporary fellowships just to make enough money to live off of. Journalist Rachel Glickhouse says she "personally experienced the turbulence of this industry — getting laid off from a staff job after relocating, taking jobs without benefits, and working time-limited positions" (NeimanLabs). These layoffs aren't only hurting the journalists, but the media industry as a whole. As of right now, there is no solution to this issue. "Journalists will continue to lose their jobs and have to make important decisions about their livelihoods" (NeimanLabs).
