Media Platforms: Eye Appeal

The age that we live in today allows us to keep in touch with friends and family worldwide consistently. Through several media platforms, we can access the daily news, read emails, catch up with friends, and much more. I use Snapchat and Twitter the most out of all the media platforms that there are. I have come to find that companies purposely use different methods to catch the eye of the individual in front of the screen.

Snapchat, in my opinion, primary use is to send pictures/videos, share stories, locations, post, comment, and much more. Although recently, Snapchat has added a tab for news that enables others to maintain informed on a wide variety of topics. I'm not the type of person to be consumed by the news and current events, but I find myself drawn towards the tab due to how the news stories are made/resented to me. All the colorful words and how the letters are shaped draw me in even though I may not even know what they're trying to convey.

"...a new appealing news tab might make more people engaged to use the platform and this might also attract new users who are always looking for dedicated news section along with their friend selfie stories" (Ali 1).

On the other hand, Twitter is more geared towards "trending" and common topics between users. By following other users, posts that they've liked or retweeted will appear on your feed. Most of the time, there will be stories and posts that you would have no idea of, but because of who you follow and what's most popular at the time, you can be informed on a multitude of news.
