Media Rhetorical Choices

Ian Holm death news reported by two different media sources ( CBC News and BBC News) will be compared to know what they actually want to convey to the audience.

Starting with the CBC News the title was "Ian Holm, actor known for Chariot of Fire and Lord of the Ring dead at 88"(karka). This is a thesis like topic as it conveys the information the paper would entail. His British background was brought up as well as his illness which could have caused his death " Parkinson's disease". Tweets about him were inserted at the end of every paragraph as they briefed readers about his achievements, setback and awards earned. This essay treated him as a talented man who has shaken theatre and film production. They also made him seem like a man who has achieved the best in life.

The BBC News title was "Sir Ian Holm: Lord of the Rings and Alien star dies aged 88". They started with his achievements and also emphasised he died peacefully. Stated Parkinson's disease as the possible cause of death and sited a lot of people mentioning the memories they had with him. Mentioned his setbacks and awards won. They referred to him as funny a lot of time. This writer want people to thin of him as a talented, respectable and fun person to work with.
