Military vs. Journalism: Sudan's Second Greatest Conflict of the Century

Over the past decade, Sudan has not seen its fair share of peace. Plagued by an ongoing civil war and other civil unrest, the nation has fallen into disarray on many levels. One journalist, Nasif Saleh, used his platform at Al-Jazeera Arabic in order to call out the shortcomings of Sudan's Army. After years of reporting on the Army, it was reported that Sudan would pursue lawsuits against any journalist who published articles with the intention of defaming or insulting the military of Sudan. Saleh says that he is "fears the RSF could use the law against [him]". The use of legal action is not unprecedented, and few nations across the world boast freedom of speech. Dura Qambo of BBC Arabic believes that her speech poses a bigger threat to Sudan than they can ever pose to her.
