In a recent spread of fake news, scientists from "The Conversation" were working to spread a different kind of fake news. This fake news was different than what people are used to seeing throughout the internet, and in fact, this fake news was geared to helping save endangered birds. Specifically, "We protected endangered shorebirds by spreading misinformation — in the form of bird smells — to deceive predators," says Banks.
By mixing odours and Vaseline, the scientists were able to make a smell that made the predators realize there was no food near the birds, which in sum, drove the predators the opposite way of the birds and allowed the birds safety.
