With the inclusion of video media to Spotify’s platform in 2021, revenue will be drawn from other companies that publish podcasts, and it will become a more general-use media. Both of these results will bring more use to paying for a subscription, and therefore bring even a larger audience than what the company already has. It will fuel competition and force content creators to either choose between platforms to publish their media on or increase the demand for it. This competitive nature and the entire structure of being a multimedia platform brings forth discussion of labor issues within journalism.
