In the last decade, humanity has seen an unparalleled leap in technological capabilities greater than any in the history of the world. Cars drive themselves, you can talk to anyone 'face to face' at any time, and news can be published, digested and explored in seconds. Regarding the latter, companies each have their own methods of getting their news out into the public. Social media has made this advance in news abilities much easier, as 79% of Americans. have some sort of social media downloaded. They are on the platform every day, scrolling and looking for something to do, which makes it perfect for news companies to publish their pieces on the platforms. According to a study found on https://www.americanpressinstitute.org/publications/reports/survey-research/how-people-use-twitter-news/single-page/, a staggering 86% of Twitter users use the platform for news, and 74% of those people do so daily. Twitter knows that. Twitter has a moments page that, with the help of an algorithm, gives each account a dose of news that they find interesting. Breaking news is written in all caps, and the fast pace of tweets in the midst of breaking news causes a lot of users to interact with the news (comment, share to other platforms, retweet). Every major thing that happens brings an extremely large amount of internet traffic to the website. The large audience found on twitter catches the attention of large publishers for the fact that they can "make more effective use of social networks in general and Twitter in particular". Twitter's amount of users is a great incentive for news companies to put their news on the app.
