With the ever growing popularity of social media in our society, Twitter has emerged as one of the most subscribed social media platforms. However, not only is twitter an amazing way to share the current events of your life, it doubles as an informant for the current events of the nation and the world. A study conducted by the American Press Institute (https://www.americanpressinstitute.org/publications/reports/survey-research/how-people-use-twitter-news/) found that "74% of twitter users use it for news daily." But just how does twitter keep us so up to date? Simple, they listen to the people. Whenever twitter activity bots detect a certain word or saying that is being 'tweeted' frequently, they list it on the trending page. So, when news breaks across the world, it is almost instantly found on the trending page. However, this unfortunately can lead to false narratives and lies to be spread, reminding us that we must not always trust what we read online.
