Newspaper FrontPage comparison

Link 2 Akron Beacon Journal:

These two newspaper front pages are structured differently to draw attention. Brainerd Dispatch interestingly uses a hero banner on their front page, which draws readers' immediate attention to the story. However, the related section just under the banner only contains two paragraphs and another mid-size image. If readers want to know more about the story, they will have to flip to page 45 for details. As a reader, I'm confused by the decision to make a hero banner on the front page but explaining the details in later pages. This story should be today's primary focus, and I wish to learn about it on the front page. I think the way Brainerd Dispatch structures the front page is not effective in keeping me engaging in the story. Also, the front page is divided into different sections with each of them being a summary of a story. Multiple stories will be more likely to create distractions during reading for readers. Akron Beacon Journal, on the other hand, has fewer articles on the front page. They put an image in the center of the front page to draw attention which is really effective. Also, the layout of the sections is nice and clean. I can easily follow the stories with minimal distractions. Therefore, from the two newspapers' front pages, the Akron Beacon Journal did a better job presenting the articles to readers by using a centered image to draw attention and using a clean layout to guide readers.
