Newspaper's Tactics and Strategies to Engage Readers

Newspapers have to be big, bold, and attention-grabbing for anyone who happens upon a stand selling them or anyone who might happen to see a newspaper while living their daily lives. To do this different newspapers use different strategies and tactics while maintaining the same style to attract and engage readers. For instance, all newspapers have larger front-page photos but what's in the photos makes the difference. For example in the Dallas Morning News, the front-page photo was of an older man inside of their home all wearing masks and repairmen working on the plumbing of their sink. This may seem simple and baseless but the article is about how many Texan's water pipes burst during the winter storm or lost water altogether. To engage with the reader in a way that they could relate to as millions across texas struggle with the same issues. The article itself also comes with a quirky title being "Plumbers flooded with housecalls" mostly to grab more attention seeing a word like flooding along with other more attention-grabbing titles that contrasts the news told within the articles. Yet, on the same day the Fort Worth Star-Telegram most of the titles of the articles are informative and factual some being "Advisory to boil water remains in effect in Arlington" and "Delivery of Mail Resumes as Snow and Ice Melts" while the front-page photo is of a man sitting at his desk with many screens with a lot of different information on them like doppler and other documents likely to emphasize the difficult and large amount of information needed.
