Newspapers: The Simple, Yet Effective Layout

jmonroe11

All newspapers have a distinct and familiar layout. When I asked my mom what she thought the appeal for newspapers was, she responded with "it is always very consistent, and different sections are easily distinguishable."

Newspapers have a very common template. Large publication at the top, a title that catches the eye, and a few narrow columns to tell the story. I also noticed all of the newspapers had a few large graphics that broke up the page into smaller sections and added color. The reason that newspapers use columns is so that it is easier for the reader to read. Different stories are clearly separated making it easy to find a story that interests the reader. Their simplicity and effectiveness is why newspapers were so popular.
