Pandemic or 'Infodemic'?

I read an article called "5 ways to help stop the 'infodemic,' the increasing misinformation about coronavirus" ( https://theconversation.com/5-ways-to-help-stop-the-infodemic-the-increasing-misinformation-about-coronavirus-137561 ). According to the authors of this article, the World Health Organization refers to the rumors, mixing facts, and fake news as an 'infodemic' (Naffi et al. 2020).

There have been several instances in which 'fake news' has circulated regarding the coronavirus and caused mass hysteria. Although the virus is a very real thing, some of the data and facts have been misreported causing confusion and panic. The article states that this 'infodemic' is potentially just as dangerous as the virus itself. Because of all the confusion, "people no longer know who to trust and become more vulnerable to manipulation and cybercrime" (Naffi et al. 2020).

What is happening in our world right now is a prime example of fake news and media manipulation. Because there have been so many false numbers, projections etc, it is hard to know what or who to believe now.
