There’s a lot to be said regarding the appearance of The Washington Post on popular app, “TikTok.” The opinion regarding this generally winds up being relatively positive. Francesco Zaffarano, senior social media editor of The Telegraph, shares how his first thought was “it’s refreshing to see a legacy organization accepting the challenges of a new platform.” Although this strategy to branch out to a new audience was initially a great thought, many questions can be raised regarding how this will successfully communicate proper journalism rather than find other successful ways to entice Generation Z. However, the point of it may not be specifically to report the news. Instead, it’s suspected that The Washington Post is “currently focused on building a loyal audience on a platform that has a billion monthly active users” in order to establish their potential consumers for the future. This method is considered questionable, but time will only tell of their success.
