A lot of fake news that circulates the internet today revolves around celebrities. They have become a pillar of influence for our society. we look towards them for style choices, trends and are generally influenced by them. They have become a powerful figure in this world. almost everyone goes to the grocery store and is captivated by the stacks of the magazine that's headline gossip as we go to checkout. Most of us don't even care if it is real or fake, but just want to get the latest "tea". in our point of weakness, this is where news companies and magazines make money. it doesn't matter what they write because millions of copies will get sold. People are waiting for celebrities to mess up, so they can cancel them. back in 2016, there was news circulating that Taylor Swift was pregnant due to her slightly less than a flat stomach. not everyone has a flat stomach, and even if they do, it doesn't stay that way for the whole day. this is a logical truth that everyone knows, but why was this fake news so popular and spread? the magazine does not end at drawing a huge circle around Taylor's abdomen but goes on to quote a fake quote. "She'd raise the baby alone if she has to," read the headline. As I was looking into this, I realized that the majority of fake news regarding celebrities is followed by a quote, but why? in a way, when readers see a headline that contained a quote, they immediately think it becomes trustworthy because it contains the adequate proof. celebrities have become a vessel that magazines use to make money. Is this cycle of false money making our fault? as consumers, we shouldn't believe everything we read is true. If a celebrity is expecting a child, let them announce it on their own terms.
