Presenting News on Social Media: YouTube

Writer's picture: Adeline SwindleAdeline Swindle

YouTube stands as a social media/ video sharing platform giant. There are millions of videos to choose from and many live video feeds of different events around the world whether national or personal. Many people receive news from YouTube using their live news feeds from CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, etc, and political videos on the platform providing commentary or explanation. Although it has been critiqued for demonetizing (revoking a content creator's ad revenue from a video) certain content creators based on the types of videos they create or even banning their accounts to ensure their accounts and videos "are suitable for advertisers". Which is something to think about when receiving news from an independent creator as the content or news may have been changed in the detail to be more suitable for advertising.
