Prison Overseer Resigns due to Criminal Probe

jlemon1

In the state of New Jersey's women only facility, a criminal investigation was undertaken in an attempt to uncover abuse or other mistreatment. What they found was so serious that the man in charge of overseeing the prison resigned. When questioned about the abuses by officers that had been covered up, the overseer, Dan DiBenedetti, admitted that he hadn't even set foot in the prison in over a year, this wasn't the only instance of DiBenedetti shirking his responsibility, however. Tess Borden, an ACLU attorney, said this of DiBenedetti, "“There are provisions of the law that the office has explicitly not yet complied with, and these are all critically related to community and public engagement." In other words, she argues that DiBenedetti was intentionally not complying with certain laws about the transparency of the inside of the prison.
