Pulitzer

Ever heard of a Pulitzer Prize? The man behind them, Joseph Pulitzer, initiated them after an endowment to Columbia University to which he founded the Columbia School of Journalism in 1912. Pulitzer was known for his tactics in yellow journalism whose "wide appeal reached a million copies a day and opened the way to mass-circulation newspapers". His newspaper articles used the yellow journalism techniques such as extreme exaggeration and eye catching titles to capture his audience. His sole purpose behind using this technique was because of a popularity war between his competitors', William Randolph Heart, newspaper. Despite his tactics, his Pulitzer awards were rewarded for "excellence in American journalism" among other arts.
