Racism in Journalism is a thing!

Tonya Mosley really caught my eye when I came across her empowering quote. It spoke to me deeply and it shocked me greatly. "Trust me — every person of color in your newsroom has a story about how a manager questioned either their news judgment, their diction, or whether they could be neutral or objective." At first I feel like it may be quite common for journalist to be questioned

about certain topics in the field, however for her to emphasize "every person of color", it makes me kind of mad. She talks about how as a colored person in this type of field, people believe that her "skin makes it impossible to see 'all sides.'" She even goes further to state how "this is a common refrain, one many journalists of color have heard before". This makes me angry because these people were hired for a reason, and that was because they could create great news stories for the people. With that being said why question them? Why belittle their talent over race? Someone is hired because they have shown excellence in their job field, don't take that away from them by questioning their efforts. Journalism in 2020 needs to be better, they need to accept diversity and stick with it, they need to listen to others, even if they are a different color, and lastly they need to just let everyone be themselves!
