Generation Z isn’t known for being one of the most informed generations in terms of current events. Between their short attention span and endless distractions, journalists are consistently searching for a way to best reach out to this complicated generation of individuals. Nico Gendron, program manager for the Instagram Local News Fellowship, addresses these issues, and gathers a few suggestions in order to best address them. She suggests for companies to have a solid Instagram account, include visual/video first content, incorporate easy engagement, and consider all of the platforms the generation primarily utilizes. Using these strategies, Gendron suggests platforms will be more successful because “News products need to mirror the appeal of social media products to satisfy Gen Z” (Grendon).
