The pandemic is affecting small business owners in more ways than I imagined. Today, I got a haircut and while casually talking with my hairdresser, I learned the danger she had been putting herself in. My hairdresser, Mary, said, “cutting hair in my home is just something I had to do”. Her shop in Allen was closed for 38 days during the temporary closure of all non-essential businesses. This is not the first time I heard of small business owners doing this. To make matters worse, as the business owners are returning to work, they face shortage of safety supplies. According to an article I found on bloomberglaw.com, “The shortages also present a conundrum as America’s economy restarts: If companies can’t get enough supplies, more people are at risk for the virus, adding to the prospect of another surge in cases that would leave the market even more short of protective equipment”.
